I am interested in starting a blog. I am leaning toward using Wordpress. I have never blogged and am not a coder. Does anyone have any insight into how to SEO for a blog? The general category would be way too competitive and niche would be difficult since the home page content would change regularly.

While doing SEO, blog is very important. Blog helps in following ways;

- Useful for fast indexing in search engines.
- Helps in adding fresh content.
- Helps in getting traffic.
- Getting high PR.

WordPress does most of it for you. The only thing you need to do is change the permalinks on this page: /wp-admin/options-permalink.php

My preference (http://sarahk.pcpropertymanager.com/blog/) is for /%postname%/%post_id%/ on the basis that the link is still quite short but the %postname% can be manipulated to use keywords.

You are set free to concentrate on your content and link building rather than coding. It's a very good choice.

The only plugin I consider essential is Akismet (http://akismet.com/) for weeding out the spam. In less than 24 hours Akismet has decided that 53 items were spam and from viewing the summary information I'm happy to the delete the lot in one easy step. A few do get through but it is a teeny % of those that it catches. (my blog must be on the spammers must visit list ;))
