I got an offer recently. A guy working in the DSS industry. He offered a comission based deal for building 10 websites and I refused cause the comission would have been 10% and I'm already busy with other clients generating good money. Therefore, I was more interested into getting payments after finishing each site. Have I missed something?

What's DSS?

I believe this is how they named some electronic parts made for getting free (illegal) satellite signals. Not sure though cause the deal didn't look very interesting to me so I haven't read much about it. Although, how can you trust such a deal when the guy behind it is illegal? lol

Anyway, I was just curious to hear about it.

It's probably not a good idea to build sites promoting illegal products/services especially if you are based in the US.

Ive doen some commission work in the past. The trick with it is that there is always a ton of very real potential, but in many cases it's just not worth the effort required to get involoved. In this instance I definately don't think the rewards are worth the risks, if only to your reputation.

I also think that work in this industry could cause a lot of problems.

Thanks guys. I don't think the legal issue is a problem in such a case. I would be working on a website, not selling their products (well not directly). Those websites wouldn't even belong to me. But anyway, it was more of a trusting issue and the deal wasn't very promising.

I definitely wouldn't take the deal if there are trust issues and no money up front. In fact, I never take a deal if there is no money upfront (regardless of trust issues).

I actually have a dorky little motto: "You wanna work on a "trust" relationship? Pay me some money up front and I'll trust you".

Great motto, Hugo. I think it's the right policy.
