I just read a scary article on "google-jacking"

http://www.pandia.com/sw-2004/40-hijack.html

Anyone have any ideas on how to possibly avoid being the victim of this or to minimize the potential for damage here?

Have any of you witnessed this?

Interesting...

I personally don't have any colleagues that have been effected by this, and I always take information gathered from a forum with a grain of salt.

It seems like the likelyhood of this happening is rather low, especially if the original site is extensive and has a lot of legitimate backlinks. It seems to me that Googlebot would easily be able to determine which site carries more weight and is therefor the original(which one is older, which one has more direct backlinks, etc...).

I also think that Google has algo in determine the "authorities" in the particular industry.

I tend to agree.

That's why I don't think that this particular "attack" would work against an established site. A newbie site maybe, but not a site with hundreds or thousands of pages of content and a variety of legitimate backlinks from relevant sources.

And if your website running in the same industry as the website "authority" gains the link from the page of this website - it will be of great benefit to your website pages SERPs positions.

If you can perfect how to do it, then you could certinly make a ton of money, or get a lot of publicity marketing the solution.

Sometimes there are enough possibilities to do this. So you should find the best "approach" and you'll succeed :)
