Is time running out?

An old client of mine had a dispute with his partner and pulled their site. I am curious to know if they will need to start over again building up their search engine position or do they have some time to get that bad boy back up?
(This is assuming that backlinks and content remain the same.)

Will the new site be on the original domain? If not you will have to start over.

Yes, you need to reserve the domain in order to keep the ranking otherwise:

Same domain same site, same everything really. They just bicker a lot.
Is there anything I shoudl do in particular for them or simply publishing the website again would be sufficient?

Just republish the site and you should be fine.
