For the first time in a year, Google's search engine share dropped for the month of July. According to comScore.com, Google dropped by one full percentage point, from 44.7% of the total market share to 43.7%.
The percentage point difference was split quite evenly among Google competitors according to comScore. Yahoo's, AOL's and Ask Network's shares each increased by three-tenths of a percent.
Yahoo continues to hold second place in the search engine share war, now at 28.8% (as compared to 28.5% in June '06). AOL is a distant third with 5.9%, and Ask Network fourth at 5.4%.
Google's continued growth in the search engine market share war had to come to an end at some point. According to Robert Peck, a spokesperson for Bear Stearns & Co. Inc., a worldwide investment banking and securities trading and brokerage firm, Google had grown searches by 55.7% year-over-year while the industry had grown only by 30% over the same time period.
