Smart move, Google.
As if you didn't have big enough reach already, you've now partnered with News Corp. to provide search results for the social networking giant known as MySpace.com.
On Monday, Google Inc. reached this monumental deal with the owner of MySpace.com, agreeing to pay at least $900 million in shared advertising revenue and become the exclusive search provider for the popular online hangout.
Under the multiyear deal, News Corp.'s Fox Interactive Media unit will add Google search boxes to MySpace and other sites, likely by the end of the year, and Google will provide search results and keyword ads targeted to people's search terms. This is a great thing for MySpace users because anyone who has spent time on the site knows that their current search feature leaves a lot to be desired.
In fact, the main reason that users leave MySpace is to perform searches on Google. Therefore, this integration will allow MySpace to become even "stickier" than it already is, which seems virtually impossible considering the vast number of "MySpace addicts" worldwide. On a good day, the networking portal actually receives more traffic than it's new search partner.
SEO webmasters fortunate enough to enjoy solid rankings in Google should a extra little boost in traffic when this new partnership becomes internet reality.
