A lot of folks have been fretting about the seemingly endless fluctuation of visual or "toolbar" PR. The latest PageRank update has done little to quell those fears because PR now seems to be fluctuating more than ever.
However, for people who still value the little green bar (text link ad buyers/sellers and reciprocal linkers) this constant fluctuation should be seen as a blessing in disguise.
Why? Because, hopefully, it will entice folks to stop using PR as #1 factor one considering the value of a link.
For years most experienced webmasters have known that the little green bar has no direct effect on SERPS and is often serves outdated data. So the fact that Google is allowing PR fluctuate should only serve reaffirm the idea that this ranking system is far from reliable in terms of evaluating potential links. In reality, there are many other factors, such as the actual SERPS position of a given page or parent site, which will give a much better insight into the value of a specific link.
Stop fretting about the ever-flux that is Google PR. Use it to help initiate an industrywide shift from the "PR is the end all be all" SEO culture.
