Google Inc. has announced that Google News, introduced in September 2002 in an effort to enable readers to get a broader perspective on a particular news issue, recently graduated from its initial beta version.
The service that delivers news in article clusters has grown to include 22 editions divided regionally. Currently offered in 10 different languages, Google News displays related articles in a group, allowing readers to delve deeply into an issue of interest.
As part of its move from the beta edition, Google will introduce personalized news headlines for interested parties. One new feature will recommend news stories based on the past searches of Google News by the user, particularly in relationship to articles they read previously.
In addition, the new version lists the most popular recent stories being published by editors all across the web, as well as any other topic the consumer wants to track. The process is done entirely using algorithms and all results are displayed on a single page with the most relevant news first.
Since the process is entirely computer orchestrated, the selected article sources are chosen independent of political viewpoint or ideology.
