It is precisely the image Google's founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, have sought to depict for their company.
As defenders of the little guy, Mountain View's Google Inc. continues to release additional information regarding the possibility of an entirely free WiFi network. Google plans to test the concept in their California home of Mountain View.
Google leadership has announced the completely free, citywide WiFi access, stipulating that free Internet access would eliminate the current digital divide, allowing everyone web-accessible services.
The plan will need the acceptance of the Mountain View city council. Google has stated that it will need to install upwards of 400 transmitters and relay boxes on city light posts to bring the free WiFi plan to fruition.
Many financial experts are expressing a wait and see attitude about the concept. A key question that Google appears to be seeking answers to is will getting more people online create enough revenue for the company to justify the expense of providing a free network.
The popular Internet search company in Mountain View is also reported to have placed a bid in early October to provide a similar set up to the city of San Francisco.
