Yahoo comes out from behind their veil of silence with the launch of their contextual search tool, Yahoo! Q. It's basically a little search box that can be installed on Yahoo News, on a web page, on your own website, or on the Firefox browser. It shows contextually relevant news and links in a small pop up box next to content."The thinking is that if you can read an article, you can be inspired to search," said Ken Norton, senior director of product management at Yahoo. "We're bringing search to the moment of inspiration… We'll save them time and energy, and the most relevant search." Too bad that Yahoo, in my humble opinion, is offering the least relevant results of the big three engines (Google, MSN, and Yahoo). I hope that one of two things happen: either Google and/or MSN develop a similar tool, or Yahoo pours more resources into improving the relevance of their organic search results.Either way, this seems like a great idea. Way to go Yahoo. I guess competition really does inspire innovation.
