Ladies and Gentleman. It's official. The New MSN algorithm has dropped it's "beta" designation and is now live! This morning at 12:00 am, Microsoft removed the beta designation from MSN Search and officially launched, a revamped homepage layout. The announcement marks Microsoft's official entry into the search engine industry. Up until now MSN Search has pulled it's results from the Yahoo/Inktomi search index.Microsoft's launch will be accompanied by a rather large advertising and promotion campaign. They plan to undertake an advertising blitz that will reach "at least 90 percent of consumers in the United States and several hundred million other consumers globally." (Pretty lofty goal huh...) This campaign has already begun. The redesigned MSN.com homepage features ads and links asking visitors to take a tour of the official engine. Also, the official launch was accompanied by a letter from Bill Gates. Currently, MSN accounts for roughly 20% of all search engine queries. That puts them at #3 behind Yahoo (30%) and Google (40%).
