2005 is going to be a great year for us TV couch potatoes! Google has announced plans to develop a service that will allow its users to search television content from US broadcasters including PBS and Fox News.Google Video enables users to search across the closed captioned content of various TV programs that have been getting indexed since December of 2004.Entering a query will return of still images and text excerpts from the exact point in the program where the search word or phrase was spoken."What Google did for the web, Google Video aims to do for television," said Larry Page, Google co-founder and president of product development.Google is already working to improve this service by providing additional enhancements such as playback. Though still in its beta stage, google video offers a preview page which displays up to five images and five text segments from the closed captioning of each program. It also provides information on upcoming episodes and shows when the specific program will next be aired. Viewers can search within a show for specific words & phrases or search program details and episode information. Google says that the beta offering does not include AdWords advertising or playback options.Pretty cool for the tech savvy coach potato who is looking for their favorite Aqua Teen Hunger Force quote or a spontaneous curse word uttered by some famous athlete during a televised sporting event!
